The 2012 calendar
that many of you may be hearing about has to do with the fact that the
historical Mayan Long Count calendar ends December 2012. December 20
2012 is the last day of the 13th b'ak'tun, which began September 18,
1618 (1,728,000 days from the beginning of the calendar).
The exact date for the end of the world in December has been subject to
speculation ranging from December 12, 21 to 23 2012. From wikipedia,
"Arguments supporting this dating are drawn from a mixture of
archaeoastronomical speculation, alternative interpretations of
mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged prophecies from
extraterrestrial beings.i
Of course the end of the Mayan calendar doesn't really mean anything.
There s nothing in the Mayan literature that states the end of the world
is happen 2012. Many believe however that this date will lead to the
end of the world or a global shift in consciousness ushering a more
positive human era. Others believe the world will not end, but there
will be major disasters December 2012 that one needs to prepare for.
Purported major disasters include nuclear meltdowns, great fires,
tsunamis, super volcanoes, major earthquakes and floods. To prepare
people are moving away from places where the sea level is low, and
stocking up with essential survival gear such as unsinkable boats,
hunting equipment, and a years worth of food.
